The Jefferson Library is kept in it's original form. The first collection of the Library of Congress burned in a fire and Jefferson offered congress to buy his extensive collection of 6,000 books. It was a milestone for the library since Jefferson's collection was in numerous languages and had much wider topics (about 2,000 books he bought while living in Paris being Ambassador to France). A large part of the original collection burned when English troops torched the Capitol in 1814 but over the years most books have been reacquired in their original version. | |||||
