The last 20k to the border was completely built up with hotels and aprtment buildings, so I was very happy to have done the detour to Poti and experienced a more desolate stretch of the Black Sea. The pedestrian border was extremenly busy, so I was lucky immigration let me take the car lane with only a few vehicles....
