At 14, I arrived at the youth hostel and luckily they had room in the dorm - even better in a separate building away from the crowds in the main building. Few people wanted to stay there because of construction noise from the basement, but to me it was much better with less people and brighter/bigger rooms. The first night I had the dorm to myself (US 5), but as 9 girls wanted to rent the whole room, I was offered my own room for US 6 (half price) upstairs - only disadvantage was the hot late afternoon sun but no construction the last 5 days...
