I didn't like Athens being busy, ramshackle, dirty and polluted with all the same chain stores you find everywhere in the world – hardly anything Greek about it. There's no pride in taking care of yourself and many people are begging and pursuing free services even though they can pay. The same people spend money in cafes and on coffee to-go because appearance is everything. And there seems to be no joy of life - I don’t recall any smiles during my time here...
