The highway became 6 lanes and with 40k left (not 25k as the morning sign had suggested) it suddenly became an officlal highway. I hesitated for a moment but had no energy for finding alternative ways into Almaty, so I stuck to the saying about permission and forgiveness - and it turned out okay....
