To get rid of all food scents - and thereby potential bear interest - I had washed all my bags in Seattle. However, now they smelled of soap which is equally bad, so I had to wash them again - one time in vinegar and twice in baking soda. They still had a scent so time will tell if it's faint enough to avoid bears...
